I can’t say it enough: Your web site copy is so very important.
Let me tell you a story. 🙂
A while back, a good friend, with a very profitable online business, came to me with a problem. She had created another new product and was trying to promote it as usual. She sent messages to her highly responsive email list and published ads in all her favorite spots, but still, after 1,000 hits, she didn’t have one sale.
She thought maybe the buy buttons weren’t working properly or maybe the price was too high. Could it be it wasn’t such a great product as she thought? She messed around with it herself for weeks, but just couldn’t figure it out. Finally, she came to me and said, “What’s wrong here?”
I took a look. The buttons worked. The price was a little high, but perfectly in line with her other products, and it seemed to be a good value. The only problem that I could see was her copy. It was bland. It didn’t draw me in or make me feeling excited. It leapt right in, talking about how to purchase and access the product without a compelling description of the benefits or the need it was meant to fill.
I didn’t really even do that much. I mean, it’s not like she needed a whole rewrite. What she really needed, more than anything, was some compelling lead-in copy that would make the reader feel excited by the time they got to the part she wrote, which I retained. Of course I gave it all a good once over, editing for flow and keywords as I went, and careful not to change the flavor or meaning of what my friend had intended.
It came out great. She really loved it, and best of all, she scored $750 in sales in the first week after I made changes. She was blown away to have spent just $100 to start profiting week after week after week. You can bet she had me work on a few other products before she figured it out for herself how to write the kind of copy that brings in sales!
Believe it or not, this is how it works. I’ve said it before, and I guess I’ll say it again, if you have traffic, I can help you improve your bottom line. 😉
