Forget about .exe files. Forget about .pdf’s. Today’s e-book needs to be compatible with Kindle and Nook.
Personally, I think this is a good thing. It makes self-publishing and selling one’s book even more accessible for the growing number of authors, because you don’t need to buy any kind of expensive software to do it.
You do, on the other hand, need some expertise. It’s best to start with your book in Word and save it as an HTML file. Then format it using the same editor you use for your web site. Once it’s formatted, use Calibre, which is free, to check the output and create the downloadable files for readers.
It sounds simple, but it is a process and takes some time. If you have more time than cash, you can do it for yourself. And of course, if you need help, don’t hesitate to contact me. 🙂
